What does a attacking mid / no. 10 do?
The creative brain. Operates between the lines (behind the striker), in the pocket where the press cannot reach cleanly. Delivers the last pass — the one that breaks the defensive shape.

How the attacking mid / no. 10 moves
Hunts Zone 14 (central area, edge of the box) and both half-spaces. Appears consistently in the gap between the opposition holding mid and defensive line — the blind spot of any defensive structure.
Types of attacking mid / no. 10
- Classic no. 10: pure creativity, minimal pressing — extinct in high-pressing teams.
- False 9 / withdrawn second striker: drops deep to receive, pulling a centre-back out of position.
- Modern attacking mid: creates AND leads the press on the opposition's first passer.
Why the attacking mid / no. 10 plays there
He positions between the lines because nobody is clearly responsible for marking him there: the centre-back does not want to step up (creates a gap in behind), and the holding mid does not want to drop back (abandons the centre). That 'no-man's land' is where matches are decided.
